First Year 路 FSU 路 ENC 2135
Hi! Welcome to my E-portfolio
About
Hello! I am a first-year student at Florida State University pursuing a major in Community Patient Care. I am passionate about combining healthcare with hands-on community work, especially when it comes to helping people who don't always have easy access to the care they need.
During my first semester in my English course, ENC 2135, I have strengthened my understanding and use of rhetoric through a variety of extended writing projects. Throughout the semester, my primary focus has been on the barriers to dental care for individuals with disabilities. This topic is especially important to me because it brings attention to challenges in healthcare that are often overlooked.
In addition to my academic work, I am deeply involved in community service. I have participated in initiatives that provide resources such as dental hygiene kits and education to both individuals experiencing homelessness and those with disabilities. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to making healthcare more accessible and inclusive.
Looking toward the future, I aspire to become a specialized dentist, where I can focus on treating patients with disabilities and helping break down the barriers that prevent them from receiving proper care. My goal is to combine my education, passion for service, and hands-on experience to make a meaningful impact in my community.

ENC 2135 路 Early Semester
At the beginning of the semester, I started by being assigned an Annotated Bibliography for my project. This assignment was one that gave me trouble at first because it is something I have never done before. In order to complete the assignment, I needed to find resources about barriers to accessing dental care to children who are disabled; then describe each of these resources and connect them to my main topic. While challenging at times, I believe that this assignment helped me learn how to evaluate if a source was credible and how to use a source to prove your argument instead of just summarizing. By now using what I learned doing this assignment while working on my other essay projects, I am finding the benefits of using the knowledge gained while developing the organization for all of my ideas.

The final of the courses that we completed for the course is also the one I can see a lot of development on. In this course, I created a number of different pieces (email, social media post, etc.), all addressing the same issue but targeting different audiences. Compared to previous assignments, I found it to be significantly easier due to my increased understanding of how to use the right tone, various rhetorical strategies like ethos, pathos and logos, and to develop an awareness of my intended audience and purpose.

Original Draft
Revised Draft
I identified both global and local revision requirements in my
Investigative Field Essay. Since I realized that while there was much
good content in my original draft and extensive research, but too
often, I found myself only summarizing the data (as opposed to fully
developing how this data was supporting my overall argument), many of
my points appeared to be separate from my main idea of the paper. The
global revisions allowed me to strengthen my thesis to better define a
clearer and arguable position, and make sure that every paragraph
provided direct support for this thesis.
Also, in addition to using global revisions, I employed local
revisions to improve my clarity of thought by utilizing correct
grammar, improving clarity of sentence structure and increasing the
quality of word choice. When reviewing my paper, I noted areas in
which I had repeated myself or utilized poor phrasing in order to
create awkwardness when reading portions of my paper. Consequently, I
revised my paper so that the sentences would flow together more
smoothly, without losing the intent behind the ideas/thoughts
contained within them. Furthermore, I created a correctly formatted
bibliography, as well as expanded my conclusion to provide a
perspective looking toward the future. Ultimately, these revisions
significantly increased the clarity and effectiveness of my paper and
greatly increased the connection between my research and the argument
provided in the paper.
Final Thoughts
As I reflect on this semester, I recognize how much has changed. From the uncertain first-year student to the more confident writer I am today. It's been a meaningful journey.
I learned that effective writing requires intention and a clear understanding of audience and purpose.
ENC 2135 taught me to consider who I'm writing for and how to adapt my message accordingly.
My ability to find, evaluate, and integrate sources has grown significantly.
Understanding rhetorical strategies helped me build stronger, more compelling arguments.
"The most important thing I take away from this semester is confidence. I came into college unsure of my abilities, and I'm leaving knowing I have valuable ideas worth sharing."
Thank you for taking the time to explore my work. This portfolio represents not just academic growth, but personal development as well.
